PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - Abilene Christian men's golf closes out its fall schedule at the Florida Atlantic Invitational at Panther National on Monday and Tuesday. The Wildcats, ranked No. 168 nationally by Clippd, look to build upon a third-place showing at the tournament last season.
ACU travels with a lineup of
Thomas Buisson, Grégoire Hoyeau,
Jack Hollingsed,
Tres Hill and
Preston Cooper. Hoyeau will tee off at 11:45 a.m. (CT) Monday to get the Wildcats started.
ACU joins a 16-team field led by host No. 74 Florida Atlantic and No. 76 South Florida. No. 98 North Alabama, No. 100 Stetson, No. 108 Seton Hall and No. 125 Jacksonville State follow them. No. 128 UCF is the lone power conference program, although No. 10 Florida has three individuals competing.
No. 134 Campbell, No. 148 Creighton, No. 152 Tarleton State, a fellow Western Athletic Conference representative, and No. 161 Navy are in the mix. No. 164 Troy, who reached last season's NCAA Championships, No. 190 Jacksonville, No. 202 Samford and No. 259 West Georgia round out the field.
Last season, the Wildcats finished in third place at the Florida Atlantic Invitational when it was held at PGA National Resort. Hollingsed, then a freshman, placed ninth at 4-over 217 with a 1-under 70 final round. Buisson logged a 7-over 220 to tie for 25th, while Cooper drew for 28th at 8-over 221.
In its last time out, ACU tied for 11th place at the Everett Buick GMC Classic on Oct. 13-14. Buisson, ranked No. 389 in the country, aims for his fourth consecutive top-25 performance after leading the Wildcats for four tournaments in a row. He tied for 25th at 2-under 214 in Little Rock, Ark., with nine of his 12 rounds this season having been under par.
Hoyeau last competed at the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas earlier this month on Oct. 5-7. He tied for 82nd at 13-over 229. Hollingsed drew for 52nd at the Everett Buick GMC Classic, carding 5-over 221 with a 2-under 70 second round.
Hill has shot 1-over or below in each of his last six rounds with finishes of 1-under 215 and 2-over 218. He tied for 38th place in Little Rock, Ark. on the heels of a draw for 31st in Dallas.
Cooper, ranked 486th, enters his third event of the season coming off a pair of outings under par. He shot 1-under 215 at the Trinity Forest Invitational and the Everett Buick GMC Classic, with four of his six rounds finishing under par.
