Final Results SPRING – The ACU golf team wrapped its second tournament of the spring championship season Tuesday afternoon with a seventh-place finish at the Colin Montgomerie-HBU Invitational.
The Wildcats finished seventh in the 15-team field with a final score of 23-over-par 887 over the two-day, three-round tournament. The Wildcats opened the tournament Monday with a 292 and followed that up with a round of 299 Monday and then a round of 296 on Tuesday's final day.
Houston's second team won the tournament at 20-under-par 844 with the hosts from Houston Baptist finishing second at even-par 864. Central Arkansas was third at 874, followed by Weber State at 879, Oral Roberts at 880, Nicholls at 883 and ACU at 887. The rest of the field consisted of UT Rio Grande Valley, Northern Kentucky, Bradley, New Orleans, Incarnate Word, North Dakota, Western Illinois and St. Thomas (Texas).
ACU's top finishers were freshman
Garrett Glanton (tied for sixth at 3-under-par 213) and
Robert Johnson (eighth at minus-2 214), although Johnson played only as an individual, not as part of the Wildcats' five-man team. Johnson shot a 5-under-par 67 in Monday's second round, one of only eighth rounds in the 60s recorded in the tournament.
The Wildcats' other four in their top-five for this week's tournament were
Dillon Vaughn (tied for 17
th at three-over-par 219),
Ryan Beatty (tied for 46
th at 11-over-par 227),
Brandon Stites (tied for 56
th at 14-over-par 230), and
Luke Carpenter (tied for 70
th at 19-over-par 235).
ACU is off for a couple of weeks before returning to action March 15-17 at the Bob Sitton Invitational at the TPC Four Season-Las Colinas.
