Softball makes Longhorn Network appearance during Texas Invitational

ABILENE – Abilene Christian softball concludes the tournament portion of its 2016 schedule this weekend with five games at the Texas Invitational hosted by Red and Charline McCombs Field in Austin.
There the Wildcats (2-7) will twice face host and 24th-ranked Texas (10-0) in addition to Illinois (5-4), Tulsa (8-2) and Weber State (7-4). ACU will play Texas Thursday at 7 p.m. and Friday at 12 p.m. The Wildcats will then face the Fighting Illini Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday have back-to-back games scheduled vs. Tulsa and Weber State starting at 3 p.m.
The Longhorn Network picked up ACU's second game vs. Texas for broadcast with Tyler Denning and former UT catcher Megan Willis handling play-by-play and analysis.
ACU is coming off a 2-2 stay at the Louisiana Tech Invitational, where a losses to the Lady Techsters (4-1) and Texas State (2-0) bookended consecutive victories over Belmont (3-1) and Mississippi Valley State (7-0).
Redshirt sophomore Hannah Null made the all-tournament team after finishing the weekend with a 1-1 record, 2.33 earned run average and 15 strikeouts (one walk). She was tagged with the loss vs. Louisiana Tech, but came back the following day to shut out Mississippi Valley State on two hits and nine 9Ks.
Freshman Allison Turner also pitched exceedingly well for the Wildcats, scattering seven hits in the win over Belmont and limiting Texas State to four base knocks in a 2-0 loss. Tuner posted a 1.62 ERA through 13.0 innings pitched, which included two complete games and eight strikeouts.
Junior center fielder Taylor Brown had the best offensive weekend for ACU and hit her first career home run as part of a 5-for-14 (.357) series. She also stole her third base of the season and drew a walk in receiving all-tournament honors.
Sophomore third baseman Holly Neese also had a solid weekend at the plate, hitting .300 with a home run and two RBI.
ACU has been successful on 8-of-9 stolen base attempts this spring and its defense has been nothing but stellar in registering a .991 fielding percentage (two errors in 224 attempts).
