92 Wildcats named to Southland Conference's Commissioner's Honor Roll

FRISCO, Texas - The Southland Conference Wednesday announced that 92 of Abilene Christian's spring student-athletes - those competing in baseball, basketball, golf, softball, tennis and track and field - were named to its Commissioner's Honor Roll. Nineteen of the Wildcats who made the list posted perfect 4.0 grade-point averages.
Among the more recognizable ACU honorees were Paul Goad Award winners Tyler Eager (baseball) and Peyton Hedrick (softball), plus CoSIDA / Capital One Academic All-District honorees Daniel Block (track and field), Sydney Shelstead (women's basketball) and Parker Wentz (men's basketball).
Shelstead recorded a 4.0 this spring as a sophomore engineering major to lift her cumulative GPA to 3.95.
The track and field program had eight of its student-athletes finish the spring with 4.0 GPAs led by Block and fellow Southland Conference All-Academic Team selections: Diana Garcia-Munoz, twin sisters Alexandria and Michaela Hackett, Keaton Hart, Lauren Jones and Reid Rivers.
Hedrick, an NFCA Second Team All-Region selection, was one of three softball student-athletes to post a 4.0 during the spring term along with freshmen Brianna Barnhill and Kaleigh Lightsey. Overall, 14 of the 18 softball players on this year's roster earned a spring GPA of 3.0 or higher to qualify for a spot on the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
ACU's tennis program had a solid academic showing as well this spring with sophomore Erin Walker, junior Brandon McCarty and freshman Henry Adams all registering 4.0's. Walker led the Wildcats with 18 singles victories in addition to being named Second Team All-Southland Conference in doubles with partner Whitney Williams.
In addition to Walker, there were 13 other All-Southland Conference honorees to make the honor roll, including women's basketball's Shelstead and Suzzy Dimba, softball's Taylor Brown, Holly Neese and Alyson Bishoff, plus Block, Ryan Cleary, Garcia-Munoz, Alexandria Hackett, Sterlen Paul, Kai Schmidt, Luke Woods and Taylor Yantis from track and field.
Golf claimed two 4.0 students, accounting major Brandon Stites and finance major Kyle Kennedy.
Eighty-six Wildcats from cross country, football, soccer and volleyball made the Commissioner's Honor Roll following the 2014 fall semester.
