ACU Loses Series Opener to Texans

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — The Abilene Christian softball team fell to Tarleton State 8–0 in the first of a three-game Western Athletic Conference series at the TSU Softball Complex on Thursday.
ACU managed just two hits, while the Texans, who were the preseason favorite to win the WAC, capitalized with eight runs on seven hits, including a grand slam during a five-run second inning.
Both Wildcat hits were in the lead-off spot as Elizabeth Schaefer started the 2nd with a single to left center, and Emerson Meggers kicked off the 3rd with a double down the left field line. However, ACU couldn't bring either around to score.
Starter Ella Beeman was chased in the 2nd inning after allowing four runs. Makayla Valle then entered the circle and tossed 3.0 innings, surrendering three earned runs. Valle faced 15 batters and managed to retire six on fly balls and two on groundouts.

The series continues Friday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. ACU took two of three from Tarleton State last season.
