STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Starting pitcher Alissa Snipes threw her first career complete game, Ari Maxwell and Elizabeth Schaefer each hit home runs, and the Abilene Christian softball team played one of the season's most complete games, beating Tarleton State 7-0 in the series finale on Friday afternoon in Stephenville. The victory was the 700th in the history of the ACU softball program, which began playing in 1997.
The Wildcats earned their first shutout win in 2026 and improved to 2-4 in Western Athletic Conference play as they took one-of-three games against the preseason favorite Texans.
Game 1: Tarleton State 1, ACU 0
Friday's doubleheader began with a tight 1-0 loss despite six solid innings from pitcher Leah Meyer, who allowed just three hits and struck out two batters.
Tarleton State broke through the scoreless tie in the 4th inning with a single, a steal of second, and a double to bring in the game's only run.
Ari Maxwell managed a double to right field in the seventh inning but was thrown out attempting to advance to third, which halted any potential rally.
Game 2: ACU 7, Tarleton State 0
The Wildcats, who were blanked in each of the first two games of hte series, responded by scoring twice in the 1st inning of the finale.
Ari Maxwell doubled to right center, and the next batter, Elizabeth Schaefer, drilled a home run to left center.
Maxwell added a solo home run to push ACU in front 3-0 in the 5th. The sophomore from Edmond, Okla., leads the team with 9 HR and 20 RBI.
The Wildcats piled on four mroe runs in the 6th when Audrey Lacina's pinch hit single with the bases loaded brought Kanon Goji home. Ciana Argujio then smashed a 2 RBI double down the left field line, plating Emerson Meggers and Alaina Hampton. Arguijo came home on the next at-bat thanks to a sacrifice fly by Maxwell, who was 2/3 with two runs and two RBI. Catcher Valerie Ornelas went 2/2 at the plate and Meggers and Schaefer also collected two hits each.
Freshman Alissa Snipes went the distance in the circle for the first time as a Wildcat, scattering 5 hits over 7.0 innings while striking out a pair. She stranded two Tarleton State runners on three separate occasions to keep them off the scoreboard.
