4/10/2026 7:37:00 PM | Softball
ABILENE, Texas — The Abilene Christian softball team split a Friday doubleheader against WAC opponent Utah Valley, dropping the opener 11-1 before securing an impressive 11-2 victory in the second game at Poly Wells Field.
Both games ended in the fifth inning due to the 8-run mercy rule. It was ACU's first run-ruled victory in 2026.
With a home run in each game, ACU outfielder Ari Maxwell's 11 home runs are tied for the most in the WAC this season. She currently ranks 6th in the program's single-season Division I history.
The results push the Wildcats' conference mark to 3-5 and the Wolverines' league record to 5-6.
Game 1: Utah Valley 11, ACU 1 (5 Innings)
Ari Maxwell tattooed a solo home run over the scoreboard in left field, but the Wildcats could not muster additional firepower in the loss.
Utah Valley hit three homers. ACU starter Ella Beeman left the game after allowing four runs in the 1st inning. Makayla Valle threw 2.1 innings of relief before giving way to Lindsey Oliver.
Game 2: ACU 11, Utah Valley 2 (5 Innings)
The Wildcats proved the power is in the response by turning the tide with a commanding 11-2 victory in the second game of the twinbill.
ACU capitalized on six walks and a strong start, scoring four runs in the first inning. Emalee Romero walked and later scored, while Ari Maxwell's single set up Elizabeth Schaefer's RBI single. Both Maxwell and Emerson Meggers added runs on wild pitches, giving ACU a quick lead.
The momentum continued into the second inning as Romero singled and scored again as part of her season-high three-run performance. After a pitching change, Ciana Arguijo's groundout RBI drove in Jadyn Dawson extending the lead to 6-0.
A highlight of the game came in the third inning when Maxwell hit a three-run homer, increasing the score to 9-0.
Although Utah Valley managed a run in the fourth, ACU responded with runs off a fielding error, and a sacrifice fly by Romero to plate Audrey Lacina.
Leah Meyer pitched her fourth complete game for the Wildcats, allowing five hits and two earned runs, and recording six walks and two strikeouts.
ACU's top six in the batting order went a combined 8/12 with eight runs. Elizabeth Schaefer had her team-leading fifth multi-RBI game of the season.
