PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - Everything went as planned Wednesday for Abilene Christian's softball team as the Wildcats backed their starting pitchers with an average of 2.0 runs per inning to dismantle Prairie View A&M by scores of 13-4 and 11-3 at Lady Panther Field.
ACU finished the doubleheader with 24 runs on 34 hits, only one of which, however, left the yard - a two-run home run by senior Lyndi Smith, which was her sixth of the year. Smith also clubbed a two-run double in game two to finish with six RBI on only three hits.
Freshman Taylor Brown had the team's highest batting average for today, going 6-for-8 (.750) with five runs and three stolen bases in as many attempts. In fact, the Wildcats were a perfect 8-for-8 in steal attempts, lifting their season total to 23.
Senior Ashley Nolan matched Brown's hit total, which included a pair of doubles and four RBI. She was 4-for-5 in the first game with three RBI and 2-for-4 through 5.0 innings in game two.
Of the seven Wildcats who started both games today, all had at least two hits. Emily Seidel and Courtney Flanary each ripped four singles, while Tori Valdivia and Madison Buckley each collected two base hits.
In her game two start, Kaylee Crozier went 3-for-3, doubled and scored the game-clinching run in the fourth on Valdivia's RBI single. She also touched home plate during ACU's nine-run first inning.
And in game one, sophomore Anna Jones went 2-for-5 with a steal of second base.
All the action around the base paths made for a relatively stress-free day in the circle for pitchers Hannah Null and Peyton Mosley. Null started game one and struck out eight in 7.0 innings to give her 84 punch outs for the season, while Mosley recorded five K in as many innings pitched.
Null leads the team with six victories.
The Wildcats (8-15) return to action Tuesday at 5 p.m. for doubleheader against Oklahoma City at Poly Wells Field. ACU last played host to a home game this season on Feb. 15.
