ABILENE - Oklahoma Christian earned a 2-1 series win at Abilene Christian Saturday afternoon after the two sides split their doubleheader at Poly Wells Field.
ACU won the first game in five innings, 8-0, but lost the second, 5-1.
The wildcats finished their season-opening homestand at 2-3 and will next play Tuesday, Feb. 18 at Lubbock Christian for games vs. the Lady Chaps and Western New Mexico.
Game One Recap
Sophomore Demi McNulty's two-run, one-out single in the fifth inning gave ACU its first run-rule decision of the season as the Wildcats blanked Oklahoma Christian in game one of their doubleheader, 8-0.
Freshman Hannah Null (1-1) was credited with the complete-game shutout victory, striking out four over 5.0 frames while scattering three hits.
After scoring an unearned run in the first, ACU batted around during a five-run second inning. Ashley Nolan got the offense rolling with a two-run home run to left-center field off Haley Squier (0-1), and then Paige Stevens doubled in Madison Buckley who reached via a walk.
With Stevens at second base, senior Lyndi Smith drilled her second round-tripper of the season to straight away center field that pushed the Wildcats' lead out to 6-0.
Courtney Flanary led off the game-clinching fifth inning with a single up the middle, and then with one out, Taylor Brown sneaked a ground ball past Squier in the circle. Brown stole second and came home standing up on McNulty's rip up the middle.
Both Brown and Smith finished game one with two hits.
Game Two Recap
Oklahoma Christian returned the favor in the night cap with Taylor Mosher (1-1) and Shea Coats slowing down the Wildcats' offense in a 5-1 triumph.
Mosher started and pitched 6.1 innings of five-hit ball, allowing three walks while striking out one. She was carrying a shutout into the seventh frame, but lost in on Kaylee Crozier's single off the wall in left field that scored Paige Stevens.
Coats was called in from the bullpen following ACU's run scoring hit, and with runners at first and second base she struck out pinch hitter Taylor Fitzgerald and got Madison Buckley to fly out to left thanks to a great running catch by defensive replacement Abby Taliaferro.
Mosher received all the offense she needed in the third inning on a two-out grand slam by Niki Davidson. The Lady Eagles then tacked on an insurance run in the fourth when Kendra Pierce singled home Sarah Endres.
Peyton Mosley (0-1) started for the Wildcats and lasted 3.1 innings, during which she gave up five runs on three hits and six walks.
Emily Seidel hit the lone batter she faced in the fourth, and Null finished the game with one strikeout through 3.2 scoreless innings of work.
