ABILENE - The Abilene Christian men's and women's tennis teams finish their fall campaigns on the road this weekend as each will take part in the multi-draw Grand Canyon Invitational, which is being hosted by the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, Ariz.
ACU is one of eight schools scheduled to compete along with Air Force, Nevada, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, UC Irvine, UC Riverside and the host Grand Canyon Antelopes. The women will have two singles flights and one doubles draw, while the men will be divided into three singles flights, two doubles draws, and a doubles round robin.
The Nevada men and Irvine women are the field's lone teams who ended last spring with a national ranking. The ITA ranked the Wolfpack 67th and the Anteaters 70th.
Senior Gui Gesser is the only Wildcat entered into flight No. 1. Freshman Henry Adams, junior Jason Proctor and sophomore Nico Agritelley are part of the 16-man flight No. 2, and flight no. 3 will feature Marco Bensley, Paul Domanski, Brad Gleason and Andrew Hutchinson.
Doubles pairings for the Wildcat men in the main draw are Bensley/Domanski, Gesser/Agritelley and Proctor/Adams. The three-round, four-team round robin will include Brandon McCarty and Gleason taking on pairings from Grand Canyon, Riverside and Air Force.
On the women's side there will be four Wildcats in each of the flight no. 1 and 2 draws with junior Nada Marjanovic the recipient of a first-round bye. She will be joined in flight 2 by sophomore Ansley Boarman, and freshman Whitney Williams and Carl Knezevich.
Representing the Wildcats in flight no. 1 are freshman Lucile Pothier, sophomore Erin Walker, junior Kaysie Hermsdorf and senior Brittney Reed.
The women's doubles teams will slightly differ from earlier in the fall as the coaches have paired up Boarman/Knezevich, Hermsdorf/Reed, Walker/Williams and Pothier/Marjanovic for this weekend.
