Webber wins Rimington Award

ABILENE – Former standout ACU center Matt Webber has been named the winner of the 2011 Dave Rimington Award as the top center in NCAA Division II football.

Webber is the second Wildcat to win the award, following in the footsteps of current ACU offensive line coach Sam Collins, who won the award in 2008 at the conclusion of an amazing career.

After Collins started an ACU-record 46 straight games from Week 1 of the 2005 season (his freshman year) through the final game of his senior season in 2008, Webber picked up where he left off, starting every game for the last three years (36 games) meaning the Wildcats have had just two starting centers over their last 82 games.

As a senior, Webber started all 11 games for the Wildcats en route to helping the team reach the NCAA Division II playoffs for the sixth straight season.

In 2011, Webber was a first team all-Lone Star Conference selection, second team Daktronics Super Region Four pick and a second team Don Hansen's Football Gazette all-America.

After his junior season in 2010, Webber earned first team all-conference, second team Daktronics Super Region Four, and first team Super Region Four and second team all-America by Football Gazette.
