ITA South Central Regional Tournament Draw Sheets
ABILENE - Abilene Christian's defending ITA South Central Region singles and doubles champions Hans Hach and Julia Mongin Thursday were announced as the top seeds at the 2011 tournament hosted this weekend by Southwest Baptist University in Springfield, Mo.
Mongin beat teammate and No. 1 seed Jaclyn Walker, 6-3, 6-3 to win last year's title, the third won by the ACU women in head coach Hutton Jones' 14 seasons.
Hach, the seventh seed in last year's singles draw, defeated top-seeded Malcolm Harrison of Northwest, 6-3, 6-3, in the championship match. He didn't lose a set in six singles matches and didn't lose more than three games in any set.
Hach's and Mongin's success in singles also extended to the doubles court. Mongin and Walker beat Cameron's Amanda Moberg and Julia Puckhaber, 6-2, 6-3, to win the doubles title, which was the Wildcats' ninth at ITA Regionals over the last 14 years.
Hach teammed with Bryan Joiner to defeat second-seeded Edward Boone and Mick Walter of St. Edward's, 7-6 (12), 7-6 (8). Boone is this year's tournament's No. 2 seed.
Seeded alongside Hach in the main draw is No. 6 Alfredo Desiati and they will be joined there by ACU's Nick Plum and John Strahl.
The women's main draw features three Wildcats in addition to Mongin in the top spot, Micah Hermsdorf, Hannah Kelley and Brittney Reed.
In addition to the 64-player main draws and doubles bracket, this year's regionals will also include a pair of 32-competitor B flights for both men's and women's. Wildcats competing in this section include Emily Conrad, Felicity Delgado, Cody McCarty, Laura Mongin, Kyle Plum and Madelyn Walker.
ACU double pairings for the men's team are No. 2 seeds Hach and Nick Plum, Desiati and Strahl, and McCarty and Kyle Plum. The twin-sister pairing of Julia and Laura Mongin, and Kelley and Hermsdorf will represent the women's team.
