SAN ANTONIO – The No. 24 Abilene Christian women's soccer team continued its winning ways Sunday on the campus of Incarnate Word as four different Wildcats scored in a 4-2 neutral-site victory over Truman State.
ACU has scored three or more times over its last three games to remain undefeated at 4-0. The loss dropped the Bulldogs' record to 1-2-1.
Senior Ashley Holton lit the ACU scoreboard first in the 11th minute with a quick flick past Truman State goalkeeper Jayne Grisham, and then rookie midfielder Madison Brown made it a 2-0 game with an unassisted score inside the goalmouth. The goals were Holton's and Brown's first of the season.
The Wildcats outshot the Bulldogs 9-3 in the first half as Grisham finished her outing with three saves. ACU senior starting goalkeeper and game winner Elliott London was credited with two stops.
An even more explosive second half featured both sides combining for 23 shots and four goals scored during a 10-minute, 20-second window between the 61st and 72nd minutes. The Bulldogs twice narrowed their deficit to one during this stretch, but the Wildcats answered each time to keep their cushion intact.
After Truman State pulled itself back into the game at 2-1, sophomore Andrea Carpenter beat goalkeeper Emily Bozdeck in a one-on-one situation after being fed the ball by Krysta Grimm. For Carpenter it was her fourth goal in as many games to start the season, lifting her team-high point total to 10.
Grimm provided her second assist of the game on Lyndsey Womack's one-timer in the 72nd minute, giving her nine points on the year. Womack's goal was her first since 2009 after missing all of last season with an ACL injury.
Of the 23 shots fired in the second half, 16 were on goal. Bozdeck made five stops, while ACU's Arielle Mocure made a season-high seven saves.
