Daktronics all-Super Region Four
WICHITA FALLS – ACU defensive end
Aston Whiteside and Midwestern State quarterback Brandon Kelsey highlighted the 2011 Daktronics All-Super Region Four Team released Wednesday morning by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America.
Whiteside, the Super Region Four Defensive Player of the Year in both 2010 and 2011, capped a legendary career with 40 tackles in 2011, including 12.5 for loss and six sacks from his defensive end position.
The Vernon native is a four-time all-Lone Star Conference selection, three-time LSC Defensive Lineman of the Year and a two-time Daktronics All American.
Whiteside closed out his four-year ACU career in 2011 after terrorizing opposing offenses and helping the Wildcats to a combined 39-9 record, two LSC championships and four straight trips to the NCAA Division II playoffs from 2008-11.
Whiteside was the only Wildcat to earn first team honors, while senior offensive linemen
Neal Tivis and
Matt Webber were each voted to the second team. Both players were voted first team all-LSC and were key cogs on an offense that finished in the top five in the nation in both total offense and passing offense.
Kelsey earned Offensive Player of the Year honors after leading MSU to its first unbeaten regular season in school history. The junior from Arlington led the nation's top-ranked offensive attack which averaged 531.9 yards of total offense and ranked second in the nation with 323.5 rushing yards per game.
Kelsey accounted for 967 rushing yards while completing 152-of-233 passes for 1,951 yards to rank eighth in NCAA II with a 158.74 pass efficiency rating.
Kelsey split first-team quarterback honors with fellow Harlon Hill Trophy finalist Dane Simoneau of Washburn (Kan.). Simoneau passed for 4,089 yards and 38 touchdowns while leading the Ichabods to a 9-2 regular season advancing to the second round of the 2011 NCAA Division II playoffs. Both advance to the All America ballot.
The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is voted on by the NCAA Division II members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA), with the online nomination and voting process powered by ATHLETICSITE.COM.
