ACU's Broome Named UAC Special Teams Player of the Week

Abilene Christian running back Alex Broome has been awarded the United Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week honor, the league announced Monday.
Broome, a fifth-year player who transferred from Boston College, returned a fourth-quarter kickoff 98 yards down the sideline for a touchdown against Texas Tech last Saturday night. The return made Broome the first Wildcat to score on a kickoff since Gage Graham jumped in front of a surprise onside kick and raced in from 43 yards out against Houston Baptist in 2019. The last TD return on a conventional deep kickoff was Justin Miller's 93-yard return at Stephen F. Austin in 2016.
Broome's play was also the longest ACU kickoff return in 17 years. Justin Johnson took a kick back 100 yards versus Eastern New Mexico on Sept. 26, 2009.
Broome also added 52 yards rushing and another five yards receiving for a total of 155 all-purpose yards against the Red Raiders.
The return mirrored one from ACU's season opener at Lamar which Broome maneuvered down to the Cardinals' 6 yard line before being negated by penalty. The touchdown came on just his fourth career kickoff return, having only recorded two kickoff returns during his four seasons at Boston College and two this year with the Wildcats.
ACU plays its first home game of 2026 when the Wildcats welcome Stephen F. Austin on Saturday at 7 p.m. for their Black Out Game presented by First Financial Bank.
