ABILENE -- The ACU men's tennis team got its season started over the weekend by winning two of three matches, including an 8-1 win Saturday over Lone Star Converence rival Midwestern State at the Teague Special Events Center.

The Wildcats (2-1 and ranked No. 23 in NCAA Division II) got their season started Friday afternoon with a 6-3 win over Trinity University before falling to NAIA powerhouse Oklahoma Christian late Friday, 5-4. ACU then bounced back Saturday to knock off Midwestern State, 8-1.

ACU's No. 1 singles player, Eldad Campbell, went 2-1 in singles play and 3-0 in doubles action to finish the weekend 5-1 in his first action of the spring.

His only loss came against Trinity where he lost 6-3, 7-6 to Thomas VanCauter at No. 1 singles. Oklahoma Christian, in fact, won four of six singles matches after ACU won two of three doubles matches to get things started.

"We played a really good match against Oklahoma Christian," ACU head coach Hutton Jones said. "They're a top-five NAIA team that has a chance to win the national championship. They've got a really good team, but I was pleased with the way our guys played. And then we came back Saturday and played really well to beat Midwestern State."
