Biography

 

Irene Squillaci returns for her junior year and is expected to again be one of the best singles players in the Lone Star Conference as well as one of the best doubles players with her partner, senior Aina Rafolo. Squillaci and Rafolo are the No. 2-ranked doubles team in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s NCAA_Division II pre-season rankings.  Fall (2007): Won the LSC singles and doubles (teaming up with Rafolo) championships. Squillaci also went to the ITA National Tournament and finished second place in doubles with Rafolo.  Sophomore (2006-07): Was named the LSC Women’s Player of the Year as well as a first team all-LSC performer in both singles and doubles. Squillaci also took home the LSC Women’s Academic Player of the Year award.  Finished the year with a 19-6 overall singles record, including an 8-0 showing in LSC play. Was 14-4 when playing in the No. 1 spot and 5-2 when playing at No. 2. Finished with a combined doubles record of 22-6. She and Rafolo teamed up the most as the pair finished with a 10-4 record.  Freshman (2005-06):_Came in with high expectations and she delivered as she finished 17-9 in singles and 23-10 in doubles. She also was an impressive 5-2 in Lone Star Conference play.  Pre-ACU_Career: Before Squallaci began her collegiate career she had played in two Federation Cups for Bolivia, and while in high school she reached the quarterfinals in two professional satellite tour tournaments. She has been the No. 1 women’s player in Bolivia since she was 14 years old. She has a 2-7 Federation Cup record with one doubles win and one singles win. In April 2005, she and her partner, Maria-Fernanda Alvarez-Teran, beat Erika Clarke-Magana and Daniela Munoz-Gallegos of Mexico, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, in a Fed Cup doubles match. Her singles victory came in April 2003 when she beat Danielle Cosgrove of Trinidad, 6-0, 6-2, in a 3-0 Bolivia victory. Born 24 September 1987.
