Before ACU: Has been one of the dominant throwers in New Mexico for the past several years for Rio
Rancho HS (where she was a teammate with Tessa Holderman, who is now her ACU teammate) and
Albuquerque Academy (her 8 th grade year). Because middle schoolers are allowed to compete at the HS

out by the pandemic. But she returned to competition as a sophomore in 2021 for Rio Rancho HS,
placing 2 nd at the NM 5A meet in the shot put, discus and javelin. In 2022, her junior year, she won the
SP, DT, and placed 4 th in the javelin. That year, she was ranked #66 in the U.S. in the SP for high
schoolers. As a HS senior, she won both the SP and DT and her best SP throw ranked her #85 in the U.S.
among high school throwers.
As a senior, she also won the Great Southwest Indoor Classic (a HS all-star track meet), putting her #91
for HS athletes for U.S. high schoolers. She also competed in the Great Southwest Outdoor
Championships in 2022 and threw all four outdoor implements in one meet – getting 2 nd in the SP, 3 rd in
the hammer throw, 9 th in the JT, and 10 th in the DT. Her PR’s are: 43-8 in the SP, 131-4 in the DT, and 119-

senior. She was named to NM Milesplit All-Decade team in the SP and DT. Her senior year, Sterling was
named the Rio Rancho HS Athlete of the Year.

Why did you choose ACU? Because of the strong track and field community and the Christian values the
university upholds. No other team offered the same family-like bond between teammates and coaches. I
also love being at an institution that helps me grow closer to God.
What is your favorite thing about ACU? The community of like-minded individuals I have found here.
