2024-2025: Cross Country – spent the XC season as a redshirt. 

Before ACU: First qualified to run at the 6A State XC meet in 2022 – in his junior year, where he placed 59th. In the spring of his junior year, he placed 5th in the 3200 and 8th in the 1600 in District 1-6A, one of the most competitive distance running districts in the state. His senior year started with a terrific XC season which included a 18th place finish in the 6A State XC meet. Earlier in the XC season, Matthew finished 2nd in the prestigious Southlake Carroll XC #2 meet, with a 15:01.2 that was the #31 best time in Texas at the HS level. He finished 17th in the Nike South Regional XC meet to finish a terrific senior XC campaign. On the track that school year, he finished 6th in the 3200 at the District 1-6A meet. In getting 2nd in the Socorro Invitational 3200 earlier in the season, Matthew ran a time of 9:24.16 that ranked him #80 in Texas for the event. 

Personal: 2024 graduate of El Paso Franklin HS. Plans to attend Physical Therapy school after getting his undergraduate degree. His parents are Lisa Chavez and David Engle.
