Will be one of the Wildcats' primary backups in the backfield behind Taber Minner and Chancy Campbell. Returns to the Wildcats after missing more than half of the 2005 season with an achilees injury. Transferred to ACU in January 2002 from the University of Texas. 2005 (Junior): Saw spot-duty as a backup running back after sitting out the 2003 and 2004 seasons. Suffered an injury midway through the season that ended his junior year. 2002 (Sophomore): In nine games as one of Eric Polk's backups in the ACU backfield, Beltran had 17 carries for 16 yards and one touchdown, that score coming against Central Arkansas in the season-opener. He also caught 22 passes for 224 yards with his best game coming on Oct. 19 when he caught five passes for 81 yards in ACU's 30-29 homecoming win over Angelo State. 2001 (Redshirt freshman): Appeared in just four games for the Longhorns, rushing for 35 yards on 12 carries. His best day came on Oct. 13, 2001, when he carried the ball three times for 17 yards against Oklahoma State. Spent the 2000 season as a redshirt. High school: He ranks second in District 3-5A history in career rushing yards with 4,940 yards from 1997-99. He is fourth in district history in touchdowns with 56 and second in rushing attempts with 698. He trails former Texas all-America running back and 2005 NFL first-round draft choice Cedric Benson of Midland Lee in each of those categories. Beltran is Abilene High's all-time leader in each of those categories, and also holds records for most rushing yards in a game (347 vs. Midland High in 1997), most rushing yards in a season (2,244 in 1999), most career 100-yard games (27), most career 200-yard rushing games (5) and most career 300-yard rushing games (3). He's also the school's record-holder for most carries in a game (38 vs. Odessa Permian in 1999), most carries in a season (350 in 1999), and most touchdowns in a season (32 in 1999). As a sophomore in 1997, his 347-yard effort against Midland High set the district's all-time record. That mark is now 353 yards by Benson in a 1999 game against Odessa Permian. Beltran, though, has two of the top five and three of the top eight rushing games in district history. During his 33-game Abilene High career, Beltran scored in 29 games. As a senior he led the Eagles to an 11-3 season and their first playoff berth since 1959. AHS went four rounds deep before eventually falling to South Grand Prairie, 45-37, in the Region I-5A final. As a senior in 1999 he was a Parade magazine all-America, the District 4-5A Offensive MVP, and a second team Class 5A all-state selection. He also played in the Texas High School Coaches' Association All-Star Game, starting for the North and rushing for 65 yards on 19 carries. He was a three-time first team all-district running back, and a three-time selection to the All-Big Country Super Team by the Abilene Reporter-News. Personal: Born 25 Dec 1980. 2000 graduate of Abilene High School.
