Smith will miss the entire 2009 season after off-season surgery.
2008 (Redshirt freshman): Played in 11 games for the Wildcats and finished the season with 14 tackles (four solo) while playing a backup role on the defensive line. Compiles 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one quarterback hurry and one pass breakup. Smith recorded a career-high three tackles in three different games: Sept. 20 at Southeastern Oklahoma State, Sept. 27 at Eastern New Mexico and Oct. 11 vs. Angelo State. Smith spent the 2007 season as a redshirt.
High school: Two-year letterman at Southwest Christian High School, and was an all-district player both as a junior and senior. After his senior season, he was invited to play in the Tom Hillary Classic (TAPPS All-Star Game), and he was voted the game's Defensive MVP. As a junior he led his team to the state quarterfinals, and then helped the team to another playoff appearance as a senior. He also lettered two seasons on the SWC basketball team.
