High school: Selected to play in the Greater El Paso Showcase in December after his high school career ended. As a senior he was a first team all-District 1-4A selection at defensive tackle. As a junior he was a first team all-District 1-4A selection after amassing 112 tackles (44 solo and 68 assisted), including three tackles for loss. He also had four sacks for 20 yards in losses. He helped Chapin to a 9-3 record as the team reached the second round of the Class 4A Division I state playoffs where it lost to Wichita Falls Rider and future ACU teammate D.J. Arnold.
