The Wildcat football program and head coach
Keith Patterson announced the addition of Matt Clark to the staff in January 2022. Clark brings with him a wealth of experience at various levels of football, and he will coach tight ends and serve as Special Teams Coordinator for the Purple and White.
"I am so thankful for Coach Patterson giving me the opportunity to join him at Abilene Christian," Clark said. "I cannot wait to get to Abilene and start building relationships with our current players and start recruiting the next class of Wildcats."
Clark spent the last year at Texas Tech, overseeing offensive quality control while coaching wide receivers and quarterbacks. Prior to his time in Lubbock, Clark was the Offensive Coordinator at New Mexico Highlands University for two seasons, helping the Cowboys average more than 400 yards of offense per game.
"Matt is a bright, versatile and extremely hardworking young coach who has grown up in the industry and been exposed to some outstanding coaches," Patterson said. "Matt brings a great deal of knowledge and experience to our staff, and we are confident that he will be an excellent addition."
Clark spent the previous two seasons as the run game coordinator and offensive line coach at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. In only his first season, Hutchinson led the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference in rushing, averaging north of 200 yards per game on the ground.
Before heading to Hutchinson, Clark was the tight ends coach at the University of Louisiana at Monroe following four years at Nicholls State. During his time in Thibodaux, Clark oversaw the Colonels' offensive line and tight ends, while also serving as the team's academic and recruiting coordinator.
Additionally, Clark has served for nearly a decade as a counselor at the Manning Passing Academy, and he was selected to the 2017 AFCA 35 Under 35 Leadership Institute. A member of the AFCA Registration Committee, Clark earned his Bachelor's of Science in Fitness and Exercise Science from Western Washington in 2008 before receiving his Master's in Educational Technology Leadership from ULM in 2011.
