High school: As a senior in 2008, Spears graded out at better than 90 percent on the season. Did not allow a sack as he was voted honorable mention Associated Press Class 4A all-state. Voted first team all-District 4-4A. Spears recorded 46 knockdowns and 24 “pancake” blocks. Spears was named to Abilene Reporter-News’ all-Big Country Super Team. Spears was named to the Abilene Reporter-News’ Class 4A-5A all-Big Country Team. Played for head coach Mike Spradlin.
