- As a senior, Howell was selected as the Oklahoma Basketball Coaches' Association (OBCA) Class 5A Player of the Year
- Helped lead Carl Albert HS to four straight playoff appearances, including a trip to the Class 5A state championship game in 2014-15
- Top-ranked Carl Albert dropped a 43-41 decision to No. 2 Lawton Eisenhower in the state championship game
- Howell had 18 points and eight rebounds in his final high school game, capping a season that saw him average 18 points per game and earn second team Class 5A all-state honors
- As a junior in 2013-14, Howell averaged bettered than 19 points and nine rebounds per game as he earned second team all-Suburban Conference honors
