Honea Earns Individual Bid to NCAA Championships’ Waco Regional

INDIANAPOLIS - Abilene Christian women's golf's Ryann Honea will compete in the NCAA Championships for the third year in a row after earning an individual bid to the Waco, Texas Regional, the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Committee announced Wednesday. Regional play will tee off from May 11-13 at Ridgewood Country Club.
Honea will compete for a spot in the national championships at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. on May 22-27. Each of the six regionals features 12 teams and six individuals. After three rounds, the top five teams and the low individual not on an advancing team from each regional will move on to the national championships.
Ranked 106th in the nation by Clippd, Honea is the top-ranked golfer in the Western Athletic Conference with three consecutive top-five placements at the WAC Championship. She tied for fifth at the conference tournament last week.
Honea joins No. 107 Grace Quintanilla of Texas State, No. 176 Malisone Chanthapanya of North Texas, No. 196 Yvonne Chamness of Texas State, No. 200 Bouquet Subsomboon of North Texas and No. 790 Sara Pihlajamaki of Houston Christian in the field of individuals.
No. 4 Texas A&M, No. 8 Oregon, No. 16 Tennessee, No. 20 SMU, host No. 26 Baylor, No. 36 LSU, No. 42 TCU, No. 49 Tulsa, No. 51 Colorado, No. 77 Northern Arizona, No. 151 Tarleton State and No. 244 Prairie View A&M make up the mix of teams.
Honea captured the WAC individual title in 2024 to earn an automatic berth in the NCAA Bryan Regional. Last year, she finished runner-up at the WAC Championship and competed in the Lubbock Regional.
The San Angelo, Texas native has displayed remarkable consistency this season, placing within the top six at her last five events. Honea has landed outside the top 12 just once in 10 events and has logged seven top-six performances. She was the individual champion at The Lady Clerico on Sept. 15-16, 2025. Honea was the runner-up at the PING ASU Invitational and tied for third at the Boilermaker Classic.
Honea has twice been named the Jersey Mike's A Sub Above WAC Women's Golfer of the Week this season, doing so on March 26 and April 9. She's received the accolade seven times in her career. Honea earned WAC Women's Golfer of the Month honors this past September.
In her third season as a Wildcat, the senior has amassed 16 top-five outings and 20 top-10 placements. Honea was tabbed the WAC Co-Golfer of the Year last season and has landed on the All-WAC First Team the past two years. She has been recognized as Academic All-WAC and as a WGCA All-American Scholar in each of the past two seasons. Honea was labeled CSC Academic All-District in 2025.
