Kamas in Driver’s Seat as Wildcats Tie For Lead at WAC Championship

MCKINNEY, Texas - Maddi Kamas topped the leaderboard through the first round of the Western Athletic Conference Championship as Abilene Christian women's golf tied for first place at The Hills Golf Course at Stonebridge Ranch on Monday. Kamas was the lone golfer to close below par at 3-under 69 as the Wildcats shot 10-over 298.
ACU looks to take its momentum into the second round, beginning at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday. It is even with Utah Valley with third-place UT Arlington following at 16-over 304.
The Wildcats are drawn for the most birdies with 11. They are the leading team on par 5s at 1-under and tied for the best mark on par 4s at 10-over. Kamas' five birdies are the most in the field while tying for the fewest bogeys with just two. She delivered the top showing on par 4s at 3-under and drew for the lead on par 5s at 1-under.
Kamas began and ended her round on high notes, opening with a birdie and shooting under par on three of her last four holes. She scored at or below par on each of her final 15 holes.
Kamas is no stranger to success at conference championships. She captured the Sooner Athletic Conference individual title in each of her four seasons at Oklahoma City University and powered the Stars to four consecutive SAC championships.
Ryann Honea followed in a tie for eighth place at 3-over 75 with a pair of birdies. She tied for third on par 4s at 1-over. Kate Pickrell wasn't far behind, drawing for 11th place at 4-over 76. After scoring 4-over 40 on the front nine, she bounced back with an even-par 36 on the back nine. Pickrell tied for fourth with three birdies and drew for the lead on par 5s.
Jiyu Han tied for 18th at 6-over 78, while Jasmine Do rounded out the lineup in a draw for 25th at 8-over 80. Do paced the Wildcats with 12 pars.
