Wildcats Kick Off Program’s Third Season at Boilermaker Classic

LIVE STATS

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Abilene Christian women's golf begins the program's third season at Purdue's Boilermaker Classic on Monday and Tuesday at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. The Wildcats open the new campaign for the second year in a row at the par-72, 6,299-yard Kampen-Cosler Course.

Both days of the tournament will begin with an 8 a.m. CT shotgun start, with the first two rounds being played on Monday before the third and final round on Tuesday.

Last season, ACU placed sixth in the tournament's field of 15 at 39-over 903, finishing ahead of the likes of Alabama, Michigan and Notre Dame. Senior Ryann Honea, who returns for her third year in Abilene, delivered a second-place effort at 3-under 213.

The tournament set the tone for another successful season for the Wildcats in which they proved to be ahead of schedule in the program's infancy under head coach Rob Bennett. They placed in the top five at five events, including a victory as hosts of the West Texas Classic and a second consecutive runner-up showing at the Western Athletic Conference Championship.

Joining Honea for their second runs at the Boilermaker Classic are junior Kate Pickrell and sophomore Julia Vollmer, who each tied for 30th place at 13-over 229 last year. Graduate Oklahoma City transfer Maddi Kamas, the roster's lone newcomer, and sophomore Jasmine Do round out ACU's lineup.

The tournament field features a quartet of power conference programs in host Purdue, Indiana, Iowa and Ole Miss. The Boilermakers and the Rebels each reached last season's NCAA Championships, finishing 26th and 27th, respectively. Georgia Southern, after winning the Sun Belt Championship, also competed in the NCAA Championships, tying for 24th.

Western Kentucky, Kent State and Xavier each won their respective conferences last year. Ball State, Toledo, Little Rock, Lehigh and North Florida complete the Boilermaker Classic field.

Honea aims to make more history as one of the most decorated college golfers in the nation. The San Angelo, Texas product wrapped up the 2024-25 campaign at 95th in Scoreboard by Clippd's national rankings and is the highest-ranked golfer in the WAC.

Honea was named the conference's Co-Golfer of the Year last season after garnering the Jersey Mike's A Sub Above WAC Women's Golfer of the Week honor on three occasions. She earned her second bid to the All-WAC First Team with six top-five finishes under her belt, including a runner-up effort at the WAC Championship.

Honea notched a pair of tournament victories at the BGSU Women's Intercollegiate and the West Texas Classic at Abilene Country Club's North Course. She made her second trip to the NCAA Tournament a season after capturing the individual title at the conference tournament.

Kamas joins ACU following a highly decorated four-year career at Oklahoma City, where she was named an NAIA All-American and captured the Sooner Athletic Conference individual title each season. She powered the Stars to four consecutive SAC team championships and was the 19th-ranked NAIA golfer in the nation at the season's end.

The Ardmore, Okla. native collected double-digit tournament titles at Oklahoma City en route to four First Team All-SAC nods. Kamas garnered First Team All-American distinction from the NAIA and the Women's Golf Coaches Association each of her first three years.

Vollmer looks to build upon a strong freshman campaign in which she logged five top-25 showings, including a tie for ninth place at the Red Raider Invitational in her second tournament at the college level. She closed out the year in a tie for 21st at the WAC Championship.

Pickrell appeared in eight tournaments for the Wildcats in 2024-25, headlined by a career-best tie for fourth place at the West Texas Classic. She has four top-15 performances to her name, three of which came in her freshman season in 2023-24.

Do represented ACU in four tournaments as a freshman last season, capping it with a tie for 24th place at the West Texas Classic.

While not making the trip to West Lafayette, Ind., junior Jiyu Han and sophomore Marissa Loya round out the Wildcats' roster. Loya placed in the top 15 in four events as a freshman last season, including a draw for sixth place at the WAC Championship.
