Honea Earns WAC Co-Golfer of the Year, All-Conference First Team Accolades

ARLINGTON, Texas - Abilene Christian women's golf's Ryann Honea was named the Western Athletic Conference Co-Golfer of the Year and earned her second consecutive berth on the All-WAC First Team, the conference announced on Thursday.

The awards were voted on by the league's nine head coaches using a formula that utilized pre-WAC Championship Clippd rankings, adjusted regular season scoring average and performance at the conference championship.

Honea, the nation's 81st-ranked college golfer by Clippd and the highest-ranked in the WAC, shared the Co-Golfer of the Year honor with Tarleton State's Louise Depadt. Honea entered the WAC Championship with the conference's best ranking at No. 85 and its lowest adjusted scoring average at 71.8.

The San Angelo native powered the No. 92 Wildcats with seven top-10 finishes across 11 tournaments, six of which saw her place within the top four. She earned at least a share of the title at back-to-back events in the spring at the BGSU Women's Intercollegiate and the West Texas Classic, including an outright first-place finish at Abilene Country Club.

Honea was the runner-up at the Boilermaker Classic, the Riverbend Intercollegiate and the WAC Championship, one year removed from capturing the individual conference title. At this season's event, she recorded the lowest-scoring tournament in program history at 6-under 210 and tied the lowest round in team history with her 5-under 67 second round at Wigwam Golf Club.

Honea received Jersey Mike's A Sub Above WAC Golfer of the Week honors after three straight tournaments in the spring. She led the field at the BGSU Women's Intercollegiate and the West Texas Classic before placing second at the Riverbend Intercollegiate.

Honea opened the season with back-to-back performances under par at the Boilermaker Classic and the Red Raider Invitational. She went on to finish under par on five occasions. Honea led ACU to five top-three showings, including the team title at the West Texas Classic and second place at the Riverbend Intercollegiate and the WAC Championship.

Honea will represent ACU at next week's NCAA Lubbock Regional after earning an individual postseason bid for the second season in a row. She will compete for a berth in the NCAA Championships at Texas Tech's The Rawls Course on May 5-7, teeing off at 9:50 a.m. each day.
