ARLINGTON, Texas - The Abilene Christian men's tennis program has made it a habit of playing for a WAC championship. The Wildcats get another crack at it thanks to Friday's come-from-behind 4-2 victory against back-to-back defending champ UT Arlington.

No. 3 ACU faces No. 1 Grand Canyon for the conference title on Saturday. The match has been moved indoors to SMU's Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex in Dallas due to chances for rain.

UTA took the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 lines, but the Wildcats made their rally in singles competition.

Merse Deli took care of his opponent in straight sets to tie the dual, 1-1. After the Mavericks earned a win at No. 2 singles, Daniel Morozov knotted the match again with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 victory at the first position.

Benjamin McDonald then improved to 9-3 this spring with a three-set win at No. 6 singles -- 6-2, 1-6, 7-6. It was McDonald's third straight singles victory.

With ACU leading 3-2, the last two matches each went the distance to three sets.

Freshman Tomas Tischner came through with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win over UTA's Pedro Sasso to push the Wildcats into the WAC championship match for the third time in their four seasons in the conference.

Tischner, a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, lifted his singles record to 12-7.

ACU won the WAC championship with a 4-1 decision over Lamar in 2022, and then lost in the title match in 2023.
