ABILENE — The ACU Wildcats will try to run their winning streak to seven straight matches Saturday morning when they host old Southland Conference rival Lamar at the Teague Special Events Center.
The Wildcats and Cardinals will start with doubles play at 10 a.m. ACU is 6-4 on the season and has won six straight, including a sweep of Tyler Junior College (6-1) and Trinity (6-1) last weekend. ACU started the year with four straight losses to Power 4 opponents TCU, Texas, Baylor, and SMU before running off this six-match winning streak. TCU is ranked No. 1 in the country, and Texas is No. 3 in the latest ITA men's tennis rankings.
After Saturday's match, ACU has one more match left on this homestand: a Western Athletic Conference match against UT-Arlington next Thursday (Feb. 27) in Abilene.
ACU continues to be led by senior Daniel Morozov, a two-time WAC Singles Player of the Week this year. Morozov has won five straight matches at No. 1 singles to improve to 5-3 during the spring championship season. He's also 5-3 at No. 1 doubles with five straight wins. Benjamin McDonald is his most frequent doubles partner; they are 4-0 together.
Lamar is 7-4 on the year and is led by Leon Nickel, a sophomore from Germany, who is 4-4 at No. 1 singles and 5-5 at No. 1 doubles (5-6 overall). Fabian Anthin, a freshman from Sweden, is his most frequent doubles partner; they are 5-5 together.
