ABILENE — Abilene Christian's department of athletics announced Monday that it had chosen Evan Nemec as its next Assistant AD for Media Relations.
"We are thrilled to have Evan leading our media relations team," said Sam Ferguson, associate vice president and deputy AD for revenue generation. "He is a talented storyteller, is a hard worker, loves Abilene and knows ACU and more importantly, he is a man of faith who models Christian values. We are excited to welcome all of the Nemec's to the Wildcat community."
Nemec joins the athletics staff after working for KTXS-TV, most recently as a morning news anchor, since 2016.
"I've been here for eight years, seven of which were working in sports, and then the past year as the morning anchor," Nemec said. "I'm most looking forward to telling the stories of the student-athletes and the coaches. I know that there are great personal stories out there.
"While working on the morning news show, I've missed getting out and talking with people and putting stories together on a regular basis. So I'm looking forward to getting back to storytelling because that's is my passion."
Since his start at KTXS in 2016, Nemec has served in many positions with Abilene's ABC affiliate station.
Nemec began as a sports reporter, and then was promoted to sports director in 2018. He spent the next 5 years in that role.
In July 2023, he transitioned to morning news anchor.
Nemec graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in converged broadcast media.
His wife, Addison, is an Abilene native. The couple have a daughter, Eden, who is nearly 2 years old.
What they are saying about Evan Nemec:
"I got to know Evan while he was covering our team at ACU. I always respected how hard he worked to cover our team and highlight our players and their stories. He will do a fantastic job as ACU's new SID covering all of the great teams and stories as they happen." — Joe Golding, head men's basketball coach at UTEP
"Ever since I've known Evan, he has always shown great passion for fairly telling the story and an unmatched work ethic. Both will be important assets in his new role. I'm happy to have him on the other side of the camera and as a friend and colleague I look forward to what he brings to ACU." — Chad Grubbs, Associate AD at Hardin-Simmons University
"Evan cares about his craft as much as anyone I've worked with. A consummate professional who is not afraid to try and innovate. He's made Abilene his home and is a perfect fit to work in sports at ACU." — Noah Gross, sports reporter at KXAN-TV
