BEST IN THE WEST(ERN): Abilene Christian and California Baptist have matching 17-11 overall records which are the best overall records among Western Athletic Conference teams.
WAC STANDINGS: Abilene Christian enters the week at 8-4 in the Western Athletic Conference and is tied for second with UT Arlington. Grand Canyon is at 9-3 this season. The Cats took two of three from the Mavericks this season.
SENSING A PATTERN: The Wildcats have won all four of their WAC series this season, taking two of three games. In each of the series, ACU has lost the first game and ended with two wins. Through four conference series, ACU has not lost a game started by
Iain Campa or
Brett Lanman.
NO AB? NO PROBLEM: The Wildcats lead the WAC in two categories in which no at-bat is credited. ACU has drawn a league-leading 133 walks. The Cats are also fourth in the NCAA and lead the WAC with 22 sacrifice flies this season.
Gino D'Alessio and
Garrett Williams are tied for the WAC lead and are 22nd nationally with four sacrifice flies this season. ACU also is second in the WAC and 53rd in the NCAA with 46 times hit by pitch.
Maddox Miesse is second in the league and 59th in the NCAA, having been hit by a pitch 11 times.
RBI GUY: Gino D'Alessio leads the conference with 31 RBIs this season. He also is third in the WAC with 39 hits and a .371 batting average.
LANMAN LEADING: Brett Lanman leads the Western Athletic Conference and is 12th in the NCAA with 4.82 hits allowed per nine innings. He's also first in the WAC and 21st in the NCAA with his 1.93 earned run average.
TEXAS HISTORY: ACU has lost its last five games against Texas – all in Austin – including a 20-0 setback last season.
SCOUTING TEXAS: The Longhorns are 17-11 after taking two of three from No. 23 Kansas State. Since 2017 Texas has produced a 190-54 (.779) record at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, including a 13-6 mark this season. The Longhorns are hitting .301 as a team, led by Jared Thomas at .409. Max Belyeu has 11 home runs and Peyton Powell leads the squad with 30 RBIs. Texas has a 4.51 team earned run average. Max Grubbs has a 1.87 earned run average.
SFA HISTORY: ACU has won the last nine games in the series with Stephen F. Austin and swept the series, 9-6, 11-6, 7-4 in Abilene last season. This will be just the second trip to Nacogdoches for ACU since 2017. The Wildcats swept the last series there in 2022.
SCOUTING THE JACKS: Stephen F. Austin comes into the week at 4-25 overall and 1-11 in the WAC after taking one of three from Tarleton State last weekend. TSU is hitting .246 as a team, led by Cole Hill at .333. Nolan Brown has eight home runs and Tom Biggs leads the Jacks with 18 RBIs. SFA carries a 9.59 earned run average into the weekend.
