PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – Abilene Christian placed second behind a steady performance by Ryann Honea, who claimed her second title of the season at the Lady Bison Classic on Sunday.
The Wildcats were steady at 298 throughout all three rounds to finish at 894 but Harvard improved each round to finish with a two-stroke win.
Honea was second for much of the tournament but her steady hand was enough to claim first place. Honea birdied holes 15 and 18 and parred every other green for the day for a two-under round and a two-under-par finish. Honea, who shot par or better on every hole in the first round, won her second consecutive tournament after winning the HCU Huskies Classic. Honea finished this weekend with par on 44 holes and needed just six birdies to get the win. Honea went 71-73-70 for 214.
"I am so excited for Ryann to get the win and go back-to-back this week," said ACU Head Coach Rob Bennett. "She played steady and had two bogey-free rounds which shows just how strong she can be. As a team we gave ourselves a chance to win against a strong field. Obviously not the result we wanted coming up two shots short, but I believe we can learn from our mistakes to make the next one stick."
Manon Guille finished in a tie for seventh after a round of 80 on Sunday. She had birdies on holes 3 and 10 in the final round and ended up with a team-high eight birdies for the tournament. Guille went 69-74-80 for 223.
Delaney Martin placed 22nd with rounds of 80, 77 and 73 for 230. She had two of her three birdies in Sunday's round, collecting those on holes 3 and 10.
Sydney Williams had rounds of 80, 74 and 81 to finish at 235 for 33rd place. She had final-round birdies on 3 and 17 and finished with three birdies for the tournament.
Kate Pickrell birdied the second and eighth holes on Sunday to finish with six for the tournament. She placed 38th, going 78-83-75 for 236.
The Wildcats return to action April 8-9 at the Oral Roberts Spring Invitational in their final tournament before the WAC Championships on April 19-21.
