Men's Golf Finishes Strong in Louisiana

CHOUDRANT, La. – Abilene Christian blistered the Squire Creek course for a seven-under-par team round of 281 on Tuesday to move up four places at the Argent Financial Classic.
 
The Wildcats fired off 29 birdies for the round and jumped from 10th to sixth in the final round. The round of 281 was the best final round in the 16-team field.
 
Zane Heusel led the way with a round of 67. He had six birdies (2, 6, 8, 11, 15 and 18) and finished the tournament in fourth place at 210, seven strokes back of champion Owen Stamper of Middle Tennessee State. Heusel was six under par for the tournament.
 
Preston Cooper shot a final round 69 in his first collegiate action. He had seven birdies (2, 5, 6, 9, 13, 15 and 17) and ended in 16th place with a two-under-par 214.
 
Thomas Buisson shot 72 on Tuesday, followed by Grégoire Hoyeau
at 73 and Trenton Johnson at 75. Buisson had seven birdies on the day while Hoyeau and Johnson added three each.
 
Individual Brian Comegys shot a 78 with three birdies and finished in a tie with Buisson at 58th at 223. Hoyeau and Johnson finished tied for 44th at 220.
 
"Really proud of the guys this week," said ACU Head Coach Tom Shaw. "Our goal was to improve every day and we did just that. The hole locations were much tougher today but we had a good game plan and the guys stuck to it. It was good to see Zane play like the all-conference player he is. It was also exciting to see one of our new players Preston Cooper have such a good event in his debut."
 
The Wildcats were dominant on holes 2, 5 and 13 with four birdies on each. Hole 2 is a par-five 528-yard hole. Number 5 is a 175-yard par-three and 13 is a par four 356-yarder.
 
Next up for the Wildcats is a trip to Sapphire, N.C., to play in Western Carolina's JT Poston Invitational.
