McKINNEY, Texas - Abilene Christian men's golf looks to bookend its time in the Western Athletic Conference with titles as it competes at the WAC Championship from Monday to Wednesday. The Wildcats will tee off at The Dye Golf Course at Stonebridge Ranch as they aim to punch the program's ticket to an NCAA Regional.
ACU will travel with a lineup of Thomas Buisson, Grégoire Hoyeau, Jack Hollingsed, Colin Leonard and Tres Hill. Preston DeFriend is available as a substitution.
No. 129 ACU is the second-ranked team in the conference, per Clippd, joining No. 109 Tarleton State, No. 141 California Baptist, No. 170 Utah Tech, No. 206 Utah Valley, No. 219 UT Arlington and No. 261 Southern Utah.
The Wildcats have placed fifth at the conference tournament in the past two years after securing the WAC title in its debut season in the conference in 2022. This is the first year the WAC Championship has been held in McKinney after being staged in Payson, Ariz. the past two seasons and in Boulder City, Nev. in 2023 and 2022.
ACU is clicking at the right time, having placed within the top five at its last five tournaments and in all but one event this spring. That includes a victory at the Seattle U Redhawk Invitational presented by L.A.B. Golf on March 30-31.
The Wildcats closed out the regular season at Ohio State's Robert Kepler Invitational on April 11-12, where Hoyeau captured a share of the individual title for the first victory by an ACU men's golfer since 2021. He delivered a sensational finish, shooting 6-under 66 in the final round to close at a career-best 9-under 207.
Hoyeau was named the University Credit Union WAC Men's Golfer of the Week with the lowest score by an ACU golfer since Preston Cooper shot 10-under 206 at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic in 2024. It's the second weekly honor of his career. The senior has three top-10 outings this season and seven in his career at team events.
Hoyeau placed eighth at last season's WAC Championship, while DeFriend tied for sixth as the Wildcats' frontrunner. Hollingsed landed in 14th. Buisson competed at the 2023 WAC Championship as a freshman, tying for 31st.
Buisson has competed in each event for the Wildcats this season, placing outside the top 25 just twice and within the top five twice. Hollingsed has landed within the top 10 at two of his last three tournaments, placing seventh at the All-American Individual and tying for fourth at the Seattle U Redhawk Invitational.
