ABILENE – Abilene Christian women's golf announced the addition of a pair of Power-5 transfers for its inaugural team next fall.
Ryann Honea and Delaney Martin will add depth and experience to a talented young core as the Wildcats set their sights on challenging for a WAC Championship next spring.
Honea, a sophomore from San Angelo, is transferring from the University of Louisville where she played in multiple events for the Cardinals as a freshman while also making the Dean's List both semesters. She accumulated a 75.5 scoring average and was part of Louisville's squad at the ACC Championship. As a standout at Central High School in San Angelo, Honea shot her personal best of 61 (-10) at Diamondback Golf Club in Abilene and won the 2021 AJGA Squaw Creek Championship. Ryann also captured the 2021 6A State Championship as a junior, just the second player in program history to accomplish that feat.
"I am so excited for Ryann to be joining our team!" said Head Women's Golf Coach Rob Bennett. "I was lucky enough to recruit her once before, so to have that chance again is really special. She is going to make an immediate impact for us and will help bring a Power-5 mindset to our team that will help us compete for Western Athletic Conference Championships."
Martin is coming to ACU for her final year from the University of Houston where she played in 57 rounds for the Cougars accumulating a 75.4 scoring average in her three seasons at UH. The 2019 TAPPS 5A Champion has had multiple successes on the course including playing in two U.S. Women's Amateurs, making match play in 2021. She also garnered American Athletic All-Conference honors in 2021 and All-Academic Team for the American Athletic Conference in 2021 and 2022. She fired her low collegiate round of 67 (-5) at The Bruzzy in 2021 and advanced to Stage II of LPGA Q-School last fall.
"Adding a player of Delaney's caliber to our team is huge," Bennett said. "She has a high motor and dreams of playing on the LPGA Tour. She has already played in multiple professional events and made it through to Stage II of Q-School last year. She is going to be a great leader for us and her addition to our program further solidifies ACU women's golf as a true contender in the Western Athletic Conference."
