Baseball Position Preview: Pitcher & Catchers

Baseball season finally gets underway this weekend, and as we continue our countdown to Opening Day, keep taking an in-depth look at what we will see on the diamond this spring. The Wildcats and fifth-year head coach Rick McCarty return just 19 of their 39 players from last year's roster, and have added 20 new faces round out the 39-man roster. Today we wrap up our three-part position preview series that breaks down the talent from each spot on the diamond. Today we look at the pitchers and catchers.

It's a group of 20 pitchers and four catchers this season. At the backstop spot, Tanner Tweedt headlines the position as the lone returner, and was selected as preseason All-WAC at that spot. Joining him are newcomers Matt Flaherty, Mark Henderson, and Maddox Miesse.

On the mound, the Wildcats return 11 of their 20 options. It is the most depth on the staff that Coach McCarty has had to work with. As always, we are excited to see returners Tanner Morgan and Breck Eichelberger in the starting spots, while Max Huffling will continue to elevate in high-leverage situations again. The nine new pieces will add a ton of value, and overall, the staff has a good mix of variety and versatility with the ability to rotate roles.
