Coheley Earns National, UAC Honors

ABILENE – Abilene Christian linebacker Cirby Coheley was named FedEx Ground FCS National Defensive Player of the Week and United Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after his spectacular performance at Texas A&M.
Coheley's 51-yard interception return for a touchdown in the first two minutes set the tone for his outstanding performance in Abilene Christian's 38-10 loss at Texas A&M. He also posted a career-high 13 tackles, including eight solos, had three sacks for 20 yards in losses, and was in for two quarterback hurries. His United Athletic Conference squad trailed its SEC opponent by only 24-10 with 5½ minutes left.
"He has become a big-time linebacker," said ACU Head Coach Keith Patterson after the game. "I think he has only scratched the surface of what he can become."
A junior from Iowa Park, Coheley is the first Wildcat to win the award.
"It was a cool experience playing in a big environment like Kyle Field. Coach Patterson says all the time, 'Just go out there and act like you're 10 years old running around and play football.' That's basically what I did today and I had fun doing it."
