ABILENE – Abilene Christian put 14 players on the floor and easily defeated Arlington Baptist 82-61 in an exhibition on Saturday.
Kavion McClain scored 11 points and Cameron Steele added nine for ACU, both playing only 14 minutes. McClain and Hunter Jack Madden had five assists. McClain also had four steals.
Airion Simmons led the Cats with seven rebounds in 12 minutes and Muodobem Muoneke added six.
Simmons had five points and Immanuel Allen added four as ACU raced out to a 17-2 lead.
ABC got as close as eight points, but the Wildcats led 46-27 at the half.
Aiden Igiehon scored to give ACU its largest lead, 66-39, and McClain hit a three-pointer to match that margin, 69-42, with 11 minutes to go.
"I thought we did a lot of good things you know it's always fun to get out and play in front of people for the first time on the home floor putting the jerseys on and playing under the bright lights," said ACU assistant coach Doug Karleskint. "I think most of the returners responded well to that and the new guys will figure it out. I know it's a coach's cliche, but we gotta improve in a lot of different aspects. It's still October. We're integrating a lot of new guys and a lot of guys that didn't have a lot of experience playing college basketball. It's just not going to happen overnight."
The Wildcats open the season Nov. 6 at Oklahoma State.
