FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The ACU cross country programs took part in the Chile Pepper Festival on Friday evening. The event featured competition from all levels, and the Wildcat women finished the day with an impressive 8th place group effort, while the ACU men came in 26th place.
The Wildcat women were once again led by Irene Rono, whose time of 16:19.1 was good enough for the second individual slot for the event. Freshman Kate Williams finished in 37th, (17:38.9), while Peyton Bornstein was ACU's third finisher (67th, 18:06.9). Bella Evans (75th, 18:16.6) and Prudence Kiyeng (116th, 18:41.3) rounded out the top five for the Purple and White, while freshmen Jenna Keeley (19:00.0) and Kate Hansen (19:18.3) continued to round into midseason form.
ACU's men came away with 599 points as a team, aided largely by Levi Chambers' top-40 time of 24:43.9. Neal Helgerson (122nd, 25:37.1) and Gabe Trevino (139th, 25:53.6) followed, with Gabe Embree (145th, 25:58.5) crossing the finish line as the Wildcat's fourth finisher. Chambers has been ACU's top individual in every meet so far this fall.
The Wildcats return to action on October 15, when they take part in the Weis-Crockett Invitational in Stillwater. The site is the same as the NCAA National Championships, which will take place on November 19.
