ABILENE, Texas – The ACU football team named team captains for the upcoming campaign on Thursday, a week ahead of the team's season opener. Four players – Peyton Mansell, Blair Zepeda, Tory Hargrove, and newcomer Kendall Catalon – were selected by their peers to represent the Purple and White in leadership roles this season.
"I'm very old school when it comes to captains, so that's a role that I hold in high regard. We have built our program on the pillars of character, discipline and toughness, and these four guys embody those qualities," head coach Keith Patterson said. "More than anything, we are confident in the leadership traits that each of these men has, and we know our football program is in good hands."
Mansell received the most votes from his teammates and will serve as team captain for the third consecutive season, while Catalon, a transfer receiver from Arkansas, will have the opportunity to play close to his hometown of Mansfield for the first time. Hargrove is one of the most experienced returning players on the Wildcat defense, and Zepeda continues to rise up the program record books in the kicking game.
The Wildcats begin the season at home next Thursday, when they welcome the Lamar Cardinals to Abilene for the first of three home games in the month of September. Season tickets are on sale by visiting ACUSports.com/Tickets or by calling the Wildcat Ticket Office at 325-674-CATS (2287).
