DENVER – The Western Athletic Conference announced the 2022 Preseason All-Conference Team on Monday, with wide receiver Kobe Clark and offensive lineman Reese Moore projected to have big seasons. The league also released the Preseason Coaches' Poll, with Abilene Christian picked to finish second in the conference.
SFA, who the Wildcats will play twice this fall, received all possible first-place votes and sit atop the preseason poll with a total of 16 points. ACU followed with 12 points, Tarleton gave the state of Texas the top three teams, and newcomer Southern Utah and newly-rebranded Utah Tech rounded out the poll. Defending league champion Sam Houston was not eligible for the poll due to their pending transition to the FBS level.
"We are looking forward to the opportunity to compete in the WAC, and we are excited for fall camp to see where are guys are," first-year head coach Keith Patterson said. "This a league with no easy games, but we are hoping to surprise some people throughout the season."
Clark, a senior from Sweetwater, enters the 2022 campaign with 205 career receptions, just thirty shy of current ACU assistant coach Jerale Badone for the most in school history. Moore was a mainstay on the line for the Purple and White last fall, playing in all 11 games while helping the 'Cats rush for 18 touchdowns and more than 1,800 yards.
"These two are going to be big-time players for us this fall, and they deserve to start their season with this honor," offensive coordinator Stephen Lee said. "It will be fun to see how the year goes for them, and we are excited to have them both as part of our offense."
Season tickets, as well as tickets for the Oct. 15 Homecoming game, are available at ACUSports.com/ticketsor by calling the ACU ticket office at 325-674-CATS (2287). Single game tickets for the other four home games will go on sale on August 1.
