Wildcats will still host Lamar for season opener on 9/1

ABILENE, Texas – The ACU football program announced on Wednesday afternoon that the season opener against Lamar will remain on Sept. 1 at Wildcat Stadium. Lamar's recent announcement of their expedited intent to return to the Southland Conference will turn the first game of the 2022 season into a non-conference matchup.
"Given the excitement surrounding our first game, it was important to us that we were able to keep our first game and opponent the same, and we are looking forward to the Keith Patterson era beginning on September 1 at Wildcat Stadium," Vice President for Athletics Zack Lassiter said. "There continues to be a lot of questions and moving parts across our conference, but we anticipate that we will have more answers sooner rather than later."
The Wildcats knocked off the Cardinals 56-0 last year in Beaumont, with eight different players finding the end zone in the rout. Three weeks later, Lamar made the return trip to the Big Country for ACU's first-ever WAC contest, and quarterback Peyton Mansell had a big day to help power the Purple and White to a season sweep.
Kickoff against the Cardinals is still slated for 7:00 p.m. Season tickets are available at ACUSports.com/tickets or by calling the ACU Ticket Office at 325-674-CATS (2287).
