ABILENE, Texas – The ACU track and field team split into three groups this weekend and turned in more strong performances in Abilene and on the West Coast.
Irene Rono broke the program record in the 5K in Southern California to highlight the event.
The War Hawks Classic and Bryan Clay Invitational have both been wrapped up, while the third event of the weekend is set to wrap up on Saturday evening in Walnut, Calif.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
War Hawks Classic
- Jessica Campbell had a huge weekend for the Purple and White, winning the high jump with a lifetime best distance (1.61m/5' 3 ¼") while finishing third in the 200 (26.21), second in the 100 hurdles (15.51), and second in the long jump (5.28m/17' 4").
- Katelyn Coldicott picked up a ninth-place finish in the 400, doing so with a time of 1:05.55, while Grace White (4:56.09) gave ACU a victory in the 1500.
- Zoe Burleson and Kailey Roskop proved to be a dynamic duo, with Burleson finishing first in the shot put (lifetime-best 14.40m/47' 3") and the discus (50.22m/164' 9") before finishing behind only Roskop in the hammer (43.17m/141' 8"). Roskop won the hammer with a distance of (46.34m/152' 0") and picked up second in the discus (44.73m/146' 9"), giving ACU the top two finishers in two separate throwing events.
Bryan Clay Invitational
- Irene Rono continued what has turned into a dominant 2021-22 campaign, as the reigning WAC cross country champion broke the school record in the 5K with a time of 16:02.44. Teammate Briahna Gerlach rounded out the top five of the open 5K, doing so with a time of 16:37.69.
- Taylor Tolen finished the 200 in second place (24.01) and the 100 in ninth (11.74) before joining Savannah Walker, Amy Ambelang and D'Anna Smith on the fourth-place 4x100 relay team (46.46).
- Jack Marshall turned in a pair of top ten finishes despite deep fields in his events, coming in third in the 200 (20.77) and ninth in the 100 (10.56).
- Megan Kirby finished the women's 100 hurdles in tenth place individually with a time of 14.01.

- The ACU track and field team makes the quick drive over to Waco next weekend to take part in the Michael Johnson Invitational hosted by Baylor.
