Wildcats sink UTEP with 7-0 victory, stay unbeaten at home

ABILENE, Texas – The Abilene Christian women's tennis team picked up a 7-0 victory on Monday afternoon, sweeping UTEP at Eager Tennis Pavilion. The Wildcats are now 4-0 on their home courts this spring and are 25-4 at home dating back to the 2019 season.

QUOTABLE:
  • "I'm really proud of how we played today. It was nice to have some good weather and be able to get out and compete. We have been having some really good practices the past few weeks, and it really showed today," assistant coach Bryan Rainwater said. "UTEP tried to make a push and take the momentum, and we answered every time. Overall, this was a great team win and is a positive for us moving forward." 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Maryjoe Crisologo and Andrea Guerrero teamed up to take a 6-1 victory in the third doubles flight, and Claire Fisher and Ileana Mocciola gave ACU the first point of the day with a 6-3 win on Court 1. Sylvia Viljoen and Allison Stewart added a 6-4 victory in the second flight. 
  • Stewart defeated Elena DiBattista 6-2, 6-2 to begin singles action, and Guerrero followed with a 6-3, 6-3 victory on Court 4 to put the Wildcats on the brink of a clinch. 
  • On Court 3, Viljoen dropped the first set but came back to win the next two and give the Purple and White the team win. 
  • Crisologo won the top flight 7-5, 7-6, and Mocciola kept the ACU momentum going with a 7-5, 6-1 victory on Court 6. 
  • Fisher finished off the sweep of the Miners with a three-set win over Eve Daniels on Court 5, helping ACU close out the month of February on a high note. 
 
UP NEXT: 
  • The Wildcats are back in action on Saturday, when they host Wichita State at Eager Tennis Pavilion at 1:00 p.m.
