HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Wildcats capped their Hawaii trip with a dominant win over North Dakota to finish in third place of the Outrigger Hawaii Invitational. After round robin play over the first two days of competition, the Wildcats sat in second place and faced the hosts, Hawaii, once again in the two-three matchup for a trip to the championship game. ACU dropped their opening game 5-0 to the Rainbow Wahine, but bounced back in a big way to put up 10 runs in a 10-1 win over the Fighting Hawks in five innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Game 1 | ACU vs. Hawaii
- The Rainbow Wahine got on the board in the third with an RBI single to plate one run, tacking on two more runs off of passed balls.
- Two more runs scored for Hawaii on an infield single in the top of the sixth to push their lead to 5-0.
- The Wildcats were able to get runners into scoring position in the bottom of the sixth and seventh but were unable to bring runners home.
Game 2 | ACU vs. North Dakota
- Calie Burris homered in her first at bat to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
- The Wildcats put another run on the board off the bat of Burris with an RBI double in the top of the third.
- Two more runs would score in the third with RBI walks drawn by Rose Gonzales and Miranda Davila.
- Three more runs would score in the fourth with both Gonzales and Avery Miloch driving in runs.
- The Fighting Hawks scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single.
- Matti Reiling, Burris, and Miloch would each drive in another run in the fifth to push the Wildcats lead to 10-1.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Calie Burris extended her hitting streak to four games and her on-base streak to eight. She also notched her second three-hit game of the season against UND.
- Avery Miloch and Rose Gonzales each had multi-RBI games, while Miloch and Matti Reiling each tallied two hits against UND.
- Riley White gave up just one unearned run against the Fighting Hawks and dropped her ERA to 2.41 for the season. She now has five wins on the season after totaling just four as a freshman.
- The Wildcats 10 runs in their win are the most they have scored in a game this season.
ON DECK:
- ACU will return to Abilene to prep for the conference opener against West Division favorites, SFA. The Wildcats will host the Ladyjacks on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
