Wildcats Drop Saturday's Series Finale

ABILENE, Texas — The Abilene Christian softball team could not come up with the series win, falling to New Mexico 9-1 on Saturday at Poly Wells Field. The Wildcats recorded six hits, including a double, but managed only one run in the first inning.
New Mexico opened the game with three runs in the first inning. A fielder's choice and subsequent error allowed New Mexico to capitalize, resulting in three unearned runs. Abilene Christian responded with one run in the bottom of the inning when Emerson Meggers doubled and later scored on Audrey Lacina's single, which was misplayed by the right fielder.
Freshman Ciana Arguijo made a highlight reel catch in the third inning as she chased down a fly ball to left center, and made a diving grab toward the warning track. Her relay throw back to first was nearly in time to turn a double play.
Ella Beeman pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits and six runs, with only three of those runs earned. The junior fired a season-high 101 pitches.

The Wildcats head to Lubbock for the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic next weekend, beginning 5 p.m. Thursday against No. 2 and tournament host Texas Tech.
