Packed Crowd Expected for ACU vs. Texas Tech on Tuesday
3/30/2026 3:29:00 PM | Softball
The Abilene Christian softball team will host its highest ranked opponent in Division I history when Texas Tech comes to Poly Wells Field on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. for the program's Purple Game presented by First Financial Bank.
The Red Raiders, who were ranked No. 2 in the most recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) poll, could jump to No. 1 thanks to their sweep of Iowa State, and a loss by Texas over the weekend. The new rankings will be released Tuesday morning.
Tuesday's game is a ticketed event and as of mid-afternoon on Monday all reserved and general admission tickets are sold out. Standing room only tickets are still available for purchase here. Fans must enter from the gates between Poly Wells Field and Elmer Gray Stadium, or down Wildcat Way.
Due to the expected large crowd, fans are encouraged to arrive early so they can be in their seat for first pitch. Free parking is available in the Elmer Gray Lott off Campus Court, Moody Coliseum Lots and the Powell Lot between Wildcat Stadium and the practice fields. The lot off Ambler Avenue will be closed. Cars parked in the businesses across Ambler Avenue are subject to be towed.
In 2025, the ACU-Texas Tech game shattered the attendance record at Poly Wells Field with an overflow crowd of 1,261 fans. The Wildcats held tight with the Red Raiders as Miranda Lista hit two home runs in a 7-3 loss.
"The atmosphere, I love it," said ACU first baseman Elizabeth Schaefer about last year's matchup. "I love playing in front of a crowd. I think pressure situations are fueling. You just want to show people how good you are, so I'm just super excited hearing how many people are already gonna be coming. And let's just go beat them... let's just put on a show."
The two programs have faced off 24 times with ACU claiming victories in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2022.
