Shannon Carter to join Wildcat football staff

ABILENE – The ACU football program and head coach Keith Patterson announced on Saturday the addition of Shannon Carter to the staff as inside linebackers coach. Carter brings more than a decade of experience at the Texas high school level, including the last three seasons as the head coach at Goose Creek Memorial High School in Baytown.

"Shannon is one of the most passionate people I have ever been around, and he will be an invaluable asset to the Abilene Christian community," Patterson said. "He is a tremendous football coach and his infectious personality allows him to build strong relationships with his players, coaches and staff members."

A former 4th round draft pick by the Baltimore Orioles, Carter received his Bachelor's in History/Education from the University of Tulsa in 2007. He spent two years as a student assistant for the Golden Hurricane, where he worked primarily with safeties and assisted with the daily organization of practice.

"Coach Patterson offered me a scholarship in 2003 at Tulsa in his first year as a college coach, and 19 years later, he gives me my first college coaching opportunity," Carter said. "I'm extremely excited to be joining the ACU staff and to work alongside so many great coaches under Coach Patterson's leadership. It is surreal to say the least, and I cannot wait to pour into these student-athletes and bring the juice daily."

Carter becomes the latest in a slew of staff additions this week, joining defensive coordinator Skyler Cassity, defensive backs coach Julian Wilson, tight ends coach and special teams coordinator Matt Clark, and outside linebackers coach Conor Dubin. The Wildcats have also added Director of Strength and Conditioning for Football Corey Smith and Associate AD/Chief of Staff Jordan Seawright in the last month.
